Much of your sexual identity, from the way you dress to the way you feel about yourself as a sexual being, results from sex roles – social expectations concerning appropriate behavior for males and females.

Since sex roles are based on learning as well as on biological considerations, they vary from one culture to another.

Yet within a given society sex roles often appear to be relatively fixed, with negative labeling and impaired well-being resulting for those who deviate too far from the prescribed sex roles.

It will be interesting knowing how our lives are shaped by sex roles, especially the restrictive influence of stereotyped sex roles and the growing concern for more flexible ones.
