Death and Dying

Do you want to share?

Do you like this story?

Now that people are most likely to die in a hospital, often sedated and isolated from all but their immediate family and hospital personnel, the experience of death has become something of a mystery. Many people have never been in the presence of a dying person, and have little awareness of what it is like.

Those who have sat with a loved one or friend who is dying often have little awareness of the dying person’s internal state, much less how to communicate with that person.

For people who are heavily sedated, perhaps the final moments of dying are meaningless, if they are aware at all. But some remain alert right up to the end, and have expressed their thoughts and feelings about dying, giving us a more accurate understanding of it.
