In brief, reflex is an automatic and stereotyped response to a specific stimulus. Reflexes have evolved in humans over millions of years because they serve (or served at one time) an important survival function.

Here is the first human reflex: BLINK, which is closes both eyes to protect them from strong stimuli. This reflex remains permanent.
